The house is empty,<br \/> save for Moko and I.  The Sun makes<br \/> fraudulent attempts at cheer &#8211;<br \/> sunlight and shadow, coins and paradox,<br \/> everywhere elements of duality.<\/p>\n<p>Today my car got its &ldquo;summer care&rdquo; package.<br \/> A first step in what may soon become<br \/> a mad flurry of activity, centered around<br \/> my leave-taking.  I am ready for a new beginning,<br \/> but am forced to procrastination.<br \/> A work-ethic sense of responsibility,<br \/> to a job that&rsquo;s never given reason to<br \/> deserve it.  True, I enjoyed my job;<br \/> and I am leaving none too soon.<br \/> Responsibility and compensation;<br \/> an employment duality.  It is too often<br \/> skewed towards responsibility.<br \/> Compensation gets the shaft.<br \/> What a world, what a world.<\/p>\n<p>Two Mormon missionaries came to my doorstep today.<br \/> I stood out on the porch and spoke with them<br \/> for about 10 minutes.  I told them that I<br \/> was in a good place, spiritually, and that I<br \/> begrudged no-one the right to their own beliefs.<br \/> They said it was nice to talk to people,<br \/> even those like myself who had no particular interest<br \/> in church; better than getting doors slammed in their faces.<br \/> They were nice, and it served me well to remember:<br \/> we are all suffering through our own experiences,<br \/> fighting to determine our unique senses of humanity.<br \/> Make the best of today, speak with the people<br \/> who knock on your door.  Belief systems aside,<br \/> we are all struggling to be human.<br \/> Existential to the bone, am I.<\/p>\n<p>The Oberlin Library is going through something similar<br \/> to what the Grafton Library is going through.<br \/> The Board meets, middle management is cut &#8211;<br \/> everyone will do everything like a true<br \/> communist state.  But again, compensation is never equal.<br \/> All these decision-makers, deliberating,<br \/> and they&rsquo;ve no idea how a library runs.<br \/> Those who run the scut-work of 9-5 understand;<br \/> and are kept far from the decision-making process.<\/p>\n<p>Olympia beckons like a dream;<br \/> one with too much reality.<br \/> After all, these are not the problems<br \/> of living in a certain place.<br \/> These are the questions that haunt my humanity.<br \/> They will surely follow me.<\/p>\n<p>Emily keeps me at bay.<br \/> We held each other for an hour,<br \/> shared a beautiful moment &#8211; now<br \/> she wants nothing that will make<br \/> parting more painful.<br \/> I want anything that will make<br \/> these last two weeks less so.<\/p>\n<p>The fatal difference of perspectives.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Sometimes it&rsquo;s difficult to keep silence at bay.
