{"id":466,"date":"2006-08-10T12:21:58","date_gmt":"2006-08-10T19:21:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ahniwa.com\/blog\/?p=466"},"modified":"2006-08-10T12:21:58","modified_gmt":"2006-08-10T19:21:58","slug":"scumbag-revisited-and-placing-blame","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ahniwa.com\/old\/2006\/08\/10\/scumbag-revisited-and-placing-blame\/","title":{"rendered":"Scumbag, revisited, and placing blame."},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.latimes.com\/features\/magazine\/west\/la-tm-gonewild32aug06,0,2664370.story\" title=\"LA Times\">The LA Times story by Claire Hoffman on Joe Francis and Girls Gone Wild<\/a>  has really been getting a lot of press lately.&nbsp; I&#39;ve gotten a lot of hits on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ahniwa.com\/2006\/08\/05\/girls-gone-wild-society-gone-astray\/\" title=\"Ahniwa.com\">my write-up about it<\/a>, mostly from the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.chicagoist.com\/archives\/2006\/08\/09\/getting_famous_will_get_me_anything_i_want.php#comments\" title=\"Chicagoist\">Chicagoist post<\/a>  which was nice enough to throw me a link.&nbsp; <a href=\"http:\/\/pandagon.net\/2006\/08\/06\/scumbag\/#more-3491\" title=\"Pandagon\">Pandagon also has an interesting take<\/a>  on it, stating that for Joe Francis the main pleasure in Girls Gone Wild is actually in forcing women to do things they don&#39;t actually want to do.&nbsp; While I&#39;d love to agree with Amanda on this, I think that in this case it&#39;s really too easy to villainize Francis, letting the women completely off the hook.&nbsp; One must bear in mind that the places in which Girls Gone Wild operates are the sorts of places where people frequently &quot;get wild&quot;.&nbsp; There are always more private, demure clubs for the girls who really are not interested in flashing their boobies.<\/p>\n<p>On sort of a different side of the issue, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dealbreaker.com\/2006\/08\/joe_francis_and_the_girls_gone.html\" title=\"Dealbreaker.com\">John at Dealbreaker.com<\/a>  states that even Francis&#39;s business philosophy is full of crap.<\/p>\n<p>Girls Gone Wild came to Olympia once, not too long ago, to the now-vanished (not surprising) Barcode.&nbsp; People got arrested, and the bar was practically fined out of existence for allowing nudity, sex, raucous behavior, and other sundry perversions.&nbsp; Good on ya, Olympia.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.dieselsweeties.com\/archive.php?s=1547\" title=\"Diesel Sweeties\">Diesel Sweeties covers Girls Gone Wild<\/a>, which makes sense because R. Stevens&#39; blog was the first place I saw the article linked.&nbsp; Quote of the day is definately: &quot;My dignity fits me better.&quot;&nbsp; Hooray for dignity!<\/p>\n<p>If I would keep up with my webcomics in a more timely fashion (silly me, I must be busy getting ready to MOVE TO ANOTHER COUNTRY), I would have noticed that <a href=\"http:\/\/wigu.com\/overcompensating\/2006\/08\/joe-francis-is-piece-of-crap.html\" title=\"Overcompensating by Jeffrey Rowland\">Jeffry &quot;Snakes on a mutha&#39; fuckin&#39; plane&quot; Rowland has also, in webcomics form, stepped up the assault on Joe Francis<\/a>.&nbsp; For those not in the know, The Poopmonster (aka R.
