Flaming liberals are incendiary

I really try to stay out of political debate. Everyone’s got their opinions, and most of them aren’t going to change. But I ran across this article from The Independent Weekly, and had to post it. I discourage any of my conservative friends from reading it, though I realize you will anyway.

Leaders like G.W. and (yes, it’s a fair comparison) Hitler rise to power by exploiting the support of the weak and stupid, so it’s in their interest to encourage weakness and stupidity. That’s where universal education becomes a threat. Education encourages creative thought. Creative thought empowers people. Fascists hate creative thought. So it’s incredibly convenient for the GOP that you folks actually want your kids to be dumb. Which is why the No Child Left Behind initiative you endorse has, in fact, done nothing! Happy? Perhaps ignorance really is bliss.

On a much, much lighter note, this made me shoot milk out my nose, if I’d been drinking milk, anyway. I mean, what’s lighter than Hello, Kitty? It’s so light, it’s almost gone all the way around to the dark side, really. Oh, and speaking of the dark side…

Well, he invoked the name of the late, great Frank Zappa. Yet, I feel that he missed the point. Sure, it’s easy to call people morons because Bush won. You could call the Germans morons for electing Hitler (which of course, they did’t really do — after the Enabling Act was passed, and Hindenberg died, they combined the positions of President and Chancellor, as well as creating a separate body from the Reichstag to pass legislation — but that is beside the point; I guess).

I think the point is that this country was born out of Puritanical god-fearing people; and for the most part, this country IS Puritanical god-fearing people. The media, the civilized portions of the country, and most of the major commercial centers are more liberal — that doesn’t just overturn 400 years of Puritanical foundations.

I never said why I had to post it. It’s not that I particularly agree with the man on every point, but I certainly admire his fervor. And I think that we could all use a little more fervor sometimes.

hehe, discourage away 😉

Well this quote, assumes that Republicans/Conservatives are all un(der)educated and the ones that aren’t have it in for the ‘lower classes’. “Creative thought empowers people.” Yes, it does, but seeing as how everyone is different, it works in different ways. I’m a fairly well educated person and love to think, yet I remain conservative and a supporter of the current administration. I’m sure people think that I’m stupid for my beliefs but by no means have I not thought about them and they do not make me a fascist.

The problem with the No Child Left Behind initiative isn’t with the initiative itself, it’s the lack of funding that the president/congress gave it. The program itself is good and if implemented properly would be the most comprehensive education package introduced in recent years (including the clinton administration…because NCLB a ripoff/mix of a program instituted by Lyndon Johnson and a revamp of said plan attempted by Clinton).

So, what we’re dealing with here isn’t a program that’s deficient, it’s the lack of money for funding due to a government that can’t seem to get its act together. Is that Bush’s fault? Yes and no. We have an economy that is slowly recovering from a depression and we’re spending a LOT of money overseas as well as domestically on millions of other projects. Should that be the case? No. Education is important but there are people in government who believe that the status quo is ok until we have the money.

Does Bush hate your kids/want them to be stupid? Probably not. And there’s no massive conspiracy going on here. Simply because no explanation has been proferd by the the government doesn’t automatically imply secret motives. Bush doesn’t trust the media at all so he rarely gives the whole story to the press and usually cuts interviews short. If they hated me, I would too.

Spleintz.
